ELF Solar Powered Electric Vehicles From Organic Transit

ELF Solar Powered Electric Vehicles

Organic Transit, based in Durham, N.C., built the ELF Solar Powered Electric Vehicle that runs on solar electric and pedal power. The vehicle is a revolution in transportation and gets the equivalent of 1,800 miles per gallon according to Organic Transit CEO Rob Cotter.

The ELF’s capacity is 350 pounds; top assisted speed is 20 mph; and the 10-amp-hour batteries offer a range of up to 30 miles, but the batteries last longer the more riders pedal. It takes one whole sunny day to charge a fully depleted battery with 60-watt roof-mounted solar panels.

Harley-Davidson Unveils Its First Electric Motorcycle

Harley-Davidson Electric Motorcycle

Harley-Davidson has unveiled a prototype of an electric motorcycle codenamed Project LiveWire and set off on a 30-city U.S. tour to show off the electric motorcycle and get feedback from customers.

LiveWire is powered by a 55-kw electric motor that produces 75 hp. Mix that with its 52 lb.-ft. of instant torque and it’ll hit 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Regen braking on the rear captures electricity to recharge the battery during deceleration, with total range topping out at around 53 miles.

Harley-Davidson released a video teaser for the new bike this week.

Research shows that for every 45 kg. of excess weight, fuel consumption can increase by about 2 per cent.

“Simply removing excess weight from your vehicle such as roof racks and items from your trunk can save you considerable amounts of money and gas in the long run,” added Di Felice.

Toyota Canada will also be offering an opportunity for attendees to experience Hybrid technology first hand by test driving a 2014 Prius, Prius C and Prius Plug-in, on the streets of Toronto. Also, don’t forget to visit the Toyota booth, which will showcase vehicles in the growing Prius Family.

Try the smart fortwo electric drive and smart ebike in our Ride and Drive. Check out two solar powered vehicles that the University of Toronto and Waterloo University compete with around the world. Learn about stewardship, recycling and more.

How to Keep Your Electric Bicycle Safe and Secure

In the UK a bicycle is stolen on average every minute with less than 5% of those returned as they’re difficult for the Police to identify the owner. And a current research suggests that cyclists are more likely to have their bicycles stolen than motorcyclists their motorcycle or car owners their cars these days! It’s time to do something to against these unscrupulous thieves and protect your bicycle.

Here are some tips to help keep your bicycle safe and secure.

First, you need to choose a safe place to park. It could be better to park your bicycle in a public place. Thieves are less likely to try to steal your bike in a public place. It is harder for them to break the lock when there are a bunch of people around. And remember that never try to leave your electric bike locked up somewhere overnight.

Secondly, lock your electric bicycle to a secure thing such as a tree or street sign or street light. But make sure your bike can’t be lifted over the tree, sign or light.

Thirdly, always lock your bike at home even when it is in your garage, flat or halls of residence since more and more bicycles are stolen from the owner’s home. And make sure you keep your bicycle out of view of prying eyes since thieves will spend time scoping out a neighborhood before they make their move.

Fourthly, register your electric bicycle. Before registering your bicycle on Immobilise take a photograph and along with this record the frame number and any key details such as make and model. Mark your frame with your postcode in two separate locations if possible, one of which should be hidden. Collectively this information stored on your Immobilise account will be crucial in recovering your bicycle.

Last but not least, get an electric bike insurance. If you own a decent bicycle then it is probably a good idea to insure it.

Trikelet: The Most Compact Foldable Electric Vehicle in the World

Trikelet

The Trikelet is an electrically driven scooter, which can drive you to the station and which can be folded to very small dimensions and taken along in the train.

All the soiled parts fold to the inside and dripping water is collected, so that the folded Trikelet can be handled as any clean piece of hand luggage.

It fits in the luggage compartment of the train or under the seat. It can be dragged along like a luggage trolley. So you don’t have to lift it.

It is also very handy as a last mile solution for cars or RV′s, or simply to drive through town.
